To further facilitate Chinese visa applicants, from May 19th, 2025, the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Lisbon provides two-way mailing service (only within Portugal, including Azores and Madeira). Applicants who are legally residing in Portugal and do not need to go to the visa center for fingerprint collection1 according to policy can voluntarily choose the two-way mailing service.
At present, the two-way mailing service is only applicable to regular visa applications. For minor applicants, we still need their parents to come to the visa center to submit the documents on their behalf.
Normally, the visa review process takes about 3-5 working days. Please make sure to go to the visa center or send your documents by mailing within two weeks after receiving the Certificate, otherwise, you will need to start a new application online.
In any case, the Embassy of the P.R. of China in Portugal has the right to request the applicant to provide necessary information or to have the applicant personally visit the embassy for an interview, which may increase the visa processing time. Therefore, please submit your application in advance (usually 1-2 months before travel).
The two-way mailing service is charged per person per passport, and does not involve combined mailing. If documents are sent without our confirmation, we will refuse to accept them; If there is a second mailing due to reasons not related to the visa center, the applicant shall bear the relevant responsibilities and expenses.
1 The following applicants are exempt from fingerprint collection:
(1) People under 14 years old or over 70 years old;
(2) People who have applied for a visa and left fingerprints at the Lisbon Visa Center with the same passport within five years (Due to system reasons, applicants who did fingerprint collection before August 4, 2024 still need to come to the center);
(3) People with ten fingers missing or severely damaged;
(4) Before December 31, 2025 (inclusive), the Embassy of the P.R.China in Portugal will exempt all applicants for short-term visas for one or two entries (staying for less than 180 days) from fingerprint collection.
