Instructions for Applying for a Visa to China

1. Process

(1) Ordinary visa application

1. Log in to https://bio.visaforchina.org to fill in the visa application form online, print out the confirmation page and form, and sign on the confirmation page and item 9 of the form ( If the applicant is younger than 18 years, the consent of the legal guardian (e.g. father, mother) must be present. If one parent has sole custody, this must be confirmed when submitting the application ). 
2. Submit the application in person during Business Hours without appointment at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Frankfurt, and keep ten fingerprints. Please check the Processing Time.
3. Make a payment with debit Card (German EC card) or cash after submitting the application. Click here to check your estimated visa fee and service fee.

*The following visa applicants can be exempted from fingerprint collection (those who are exempt from fingerprint collection can entrust others to submit visa applications):
those under the age of 14 or over 70 years of age: those who hold diplomatic passports or meet the requirements for issuing diplomatic, service, and courtesy visas; within five years those who have applied for a visa at the Frankfurt Consulate General or the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Frankfurt with the same passport and have had their fingerprints kept; ten fingerprints cannot be kept.

(2) Holders of diplomatic and service passports and diplomatic, service and courtesy visas

Log in to https://bio.visaforchina.org to complete the online form filling (no online appointment required), print out the confirmation page and form, and sign on the confirmation page and the ninth page of the form, and bring your passport and other visa application materials to the Consulate General in Frankfurt. The applicaiton is processed by the Consular and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office.


2. Document Requirements for Ordinary Visa 

(1) Application form filled out online (please print the full form, 7 pages in total); 

(2) The original passport and photocopy of the data page; 

(3) 1 original photo uploaded in the application form;

(4) Proof of legal stay or residence in Germany (applicable to applicants from third countries in Germany);

(5) Original Chinese passport or original Chinese visa (applicable to those who once had Chinese nationality and later acquired foreign nationality);

(6) One or two copies of the previous Chinese visa (if available);
(7) In addition to the above (1) to (6) documents, the following documents are also required.

Invitation letter issued by relevant units or individuals in China


Z visa

Work in China

Valid "Foreigner Work Permit Notification" (or the original "Foreigner Work Permit", etc.

Q1 visa (reunion, more than 180 days)


Q2 visa (visit relatives, less than 180 days)

①Foreign family members of Chinese citizens;
②Foreign family members of foreigners with permanent residence status in China.

*For Q1 visa, family members are limited to: spouse, parents, spouse's parents, children, children's spouses, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, grandchildren.

①Proof of family relationship between the applicant and the inviter (marriage certificate, birth certificate, household registration booklet, proof of relationship issued by the police station or notarial certificate of relationship, etc.) * For Q2 visa this document is not necessary;

Invitation letter issued by foreigners with residence qualifications;

③Chinese identity certificate of the inviter (such as Chinese ID card, household registration booklet), or foreign passport and Chinese permanent residence

certificate.


S1 visa (accompanying residence)


S2 visa (relative visit)

(S1) Spouse, parent, child under the age of 18 or parent-in-law of foreigner(s) residing in China for work, study or other purposes who visit China for 180 days or more,


(S2) Family member of foreigner(s) staying or residing in China for work, study or other purposes who visit China for less than 180 days,

①Original certificate of relationship between the applicant and the inviter (such as marriage certificate, marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.);

Invitation letter issued by a foreigner working or studying in China;

③Copies of passport and residence certificate of the inviter.

R visa

Foreigner of high talent or specialist needed by the State

①Confirmation Letter for High Level Foreign Talents

②Spouse and minor children who

submit proof of relationship (such as marriage certificate, birth certificate) apply S2 visa.



C visa

Crew member

Letter of Guarantee issued by foreign transport company or

Invitation letter issued by relevant units in China

X1 visa

Long term study (more than 180 days)

①The original and photocopy of the admission notice issued by the recruiting unit in China for overseas students, original and photocopy of "Foreign

②Visa Application Form for Overseas Students in China (JW201 or JW202) ,or proof of return to school.

X2 visa

Short term study (no more than 180 days)

The original and photocopy of the admission notice issued by the recruiting unit in China for overseas students.


The Embassies and Consulates have the right to request a client to provide additional supporting documents or request the applicant to attend an interview.
