Notice on Visa Application Requirements (updated on 30/06/2022)

1. Following the Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General's visa requirements, from 30th of June 2022, the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Edinburgh can accept the following visa applications from applicants. Please click here for more information from the Chinese Embassy's website.


2. Visa application and Documents requirements:

Business, commercial trade, scientific or technological activities

1.M visa: Business invitation letter issued by a trade partner in China, or trade fair invitation, etc.
  F visa: An official invitation letter issued by a relevant unit or individual in China.
2. The invitation letter should contain the followings:
* Basic information of the applicant (incl. full name, gender, date of birth, etc.);  And
* Details of the planned visit (incl. purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relationship between the applicant and the inviting party, details of any financial support to be provided during the stay in China);  And
* Information of the inviting party (incl. name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or individual).
3. The family members can apply for short term visit visa (S2 visa) together with the main applicant at the same time. The proof of relationship is required.

4. The family member can also apply for the short term visit visa (S2 visa) if the F/M visa holder is already in China. In this case, a copy of valid F/M visa, and a copy of F/M visa holder’s passport information page and an invitation letter are required when submitting S2 visa application.

*Family members include spouse, parents, children, parents of the spouse, son/daughter in law, and unmarried partner.

         Z visa

Work

Valid Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit (copy) or the Foreigner's Work Permit (both original and copy)

S1 visa (dependent

S2 visashort term less than 180 days 

Family members visiting the work visa holder or work residence permit holder.

'Family members' refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, parents-in-law, and partner.

1. Certificate of kinship including marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc showing the relationship between the inviter and the applicant. And

2. An invitation letter written by the work visa holder or the work residence permit holder. And

3. A photocopy of the inviting party’s passport and residence permit.

*The consular office may require other documents for the child over 18 and his/her spouse in addition to the above documents.

Q1 visa (reunion with a Chinese family for a long term more than 180 days)

Q2 visa (visiting a Chinese family for a short term less than 180 days)

Issued to the family member of a Chinese citizen or the family member of a foreigner(s) with permanent residence permit in China

* 'Family members' refers to spouse, parents, parents-in-law, children, spouse of children, brothers and sisters, grandparents and grandchildren.

1. An invitation letter provided by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit. And

2. The proof of relationships including birth certificate, marriage certificate, Chinese household registration, certificate letter from the local police bureau in China, notarial certificate of kinship, etc. And

3.Photocopy of Chinese ID (both front and back sides) or foreign passport and permanent residence permit provided by the inviting parties.

           R visa

High talent or specialist

Confirmation Letter for High Level Foreign Talents

*Spouses and children under 18 can apply for S2 visa. The proof of relationship, e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate, is required while submitting the application.

           C visa

Crew member

A letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China


* All visas will be processed as a single entry visa, except for the R and C visa categories.

Note

*Applicants are required to fill in the online application form and make an online appointment from Edinburgh Visa Centre website before submitting applications in person on the date of appointment. Children under the age of 14 and adults above the age of 70 are not required to go to the CVASC for biometric information collection.


*Humanitarian visit: Applicant who intends to visit a family member (foreign nationals included) in China who is in critical medical condition and in need of care, or to arrange funeral matters of an immediate family member in China;

Photocopies of medical certificate or death certificate, proof of relationships (including birth certificate, marriage certificate, Chinese household registration, certificate letter from the local police bureau in China, notarial certificate of kinship, etc.), and an invitation letter and the ID photo copy from relatives in China are required.


*Photocopy of previous Chinese passports or previous Chinese visas (applicable for those who were Chinese citizens and have obtained foreign citizenship).

If you are applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, you should provide the last Chinese passport held and a photocopy of its data page.

If you have obtained Chinese visas before and apply for a Chinese visa with a renewed foreign passport that does not contain any Chinese visa, you should provide original previous passport(s) and present the photocopy of the previous passport's data page and the photo page if it is separate, as well as the previous Chinese visa page (If your name on the current passport differs from that on the previous one, you must provide an official document of name change).


*Covid Vaccine Certificate (You must provide if you're fully vaccinated.)


3. The Diplomatic, service or courtesy visa applicants shall also submit applications at the CVASC in advance. The applicants are not required to pre-book appointment time slots, but shall complete and print out the online application forms through the CVASC


4. Applicants who apply for visas for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or Macao Special Administrative Region can submit applications to the CVASC during business hours with no need for pre-booked appointments.


5.Visa applications for other visiting purposes which are not included above will not be accepted at the moment.
